For this evening, the occasion is the kimono itself.
Kurotomesode is one of the most formal types of kimono — and because of that, there are very few opportunities to wear one.
No wedding.
No ceremony.
No special role to fulfil.
Just an evening to dress up, enjoy the details of your kimono, have dinner, and spend time with others who love kimono.
If there is a kurotomesode waiting in your wardrobe, this is its invitation out.

Traditional or modern styling — both are welcome.
You are welcome to wear your kurotomesode in the traditional way, or style it more freely to suit yourself.
The purpose of this evening is not to judge how anyone wears kimono.
It is simply to wear it.

I received a kurotomesode from my mother-in-law that had never been worn. It was still in its tatōshi, with the shitsuke-ito still attached.
It had been made for my husband’s grandmother, probably with the intention of wearing it to a family wedding, but she never had the chance to wear it before she passed away.
The kimono remained completely untouched.
I started thinking that if I waited for my own children’s weddings, it might stay unworn for many more years.
So I decided not to wait for an occasion, but to create one.
No. Traditional dressing is very welcome, but this is not a formal ceremony.
If you prefer a more contemporary style, you are welcome to do so.
That is completely fine.
You do not need to be an experienced kimono wearer to join.

No. This gathering is not organised for profit.
The participation fee goes entirely toward the dinner and drinks included in the evening. Biyori does not receive a profit from the ticket price.
The idea is simply to create an occasion to wear kurotomesode, enjoy a good meal together, and meet others who love kimono.
